The Nordic Saturday office Stella Maria for the Virgin Mary. Variant tables

Variant tables of chant melodies from notated sources containing the historia Stella
maria (Analecta hymnica 5:21)
, presumably written around the year 1300. The
historia has been attributed to Brynolf Algotsson (appr. 1240/1248? – 1317, bishop in
the diocese of Skara 1278–1317), but acording to Ingmar Milveden’s research it is
more probably of Danish origin.

The historia contains chants for first Vespers, Matins (three nocturns) and Lauds.

Remarks to variant tables contains general remarks on the notation in the sources and
the comparative tables as well as abbreviations. Sources are listed in a separate file.

The material was prepared by Ann-Marie Nilsson during a research project (2006-2008)
”Medieval chant for Swedish saints”, financed by the Swedish Research Council.
